Produced circa 1820 to 1850, this two-drawer stand is an authentic pre-industrial American antique, built by hand from old-growth solid mahogany at a time when American cabinetmaking was at the height of its craft tradition.
The form is quintessentially Federal: a compact rectangular case with two full-width drawers, raised on four elegantly ring-turned legs with ball feet. The turning profile — rings near the top transitioning to a clean taper before the ball foot — is a precisely characteristic detail of American cabinetmaking of the second quarter of the 19th century. The original oval shield-back brass ring pulls are present and show the beautiful patination of genuine age.
The drawer construction visible in the open-drawer photographs shows hand-cut joinery — the mark of pre-industrial craftsmanship that distinguishes genuine period antiques from later revivals.
