A captivating mid-century hand-printed serigraph by James Bunnell, produced by Mission Hand Print of California in Berkeley. Titled descriptively as “Drinking Leopard,” the piece features a leopard or jaguar stretched across a weathered log, lowering its head to drink from a jungle pool below.
The work has the bold, graphic quality associated with mid-century wildlife and tropical decorative art, with saturated greens, ochre-brown tones, crisp black linework, and a richly textured surface. Mission Hand Print of California was known for hand-screened decorative works, often described on labels as “Hand Printed Originals in Oil,” giving the image a paint-like depth and finish.
The print is signed “Bunnell” in the lower right and retains the original Mission Hand Print label on the reverse. Presented in a period-appropriate dark wood frame with a wide gold-toned mat.
A strong statement piece for a gallery wall, library, den, safari-inspired room, tropical interior, or mid-century modern collection.
