Known as a Pumo (plural: pumi), these stylized figurines represent a rosebud about to bloom, traditionally symbolizing rebirth, prosperity, and good fortune. Each piece features a spherical "bud" body resting on a tiered, pedestal-style base. The tops are adorned with hand-molded acanthus leaves and crowned with a tall, elegant, pointed spire. Finished in a deep, rich cobalt blue (often referred to as "Italian Blue"). The high-gloss glaze provides a mirror-like reflection, highlighting the smooth curves and artisan hand-work. In Southern Italy, particularly in the town of Grottaglie, pumi are frequently placed in pairs on balconies, gateposts, or at the corners of a marriage bed to ward off the "evil eye" and invite happiness into the home.
