Fantastic condition, great patina. This is an ornate, cast metal item is an antique brass letter holder used to organize envelopes or cards on a desk. This features intricate scrolled work and openwork, typical of 19th-century or early 20th-century desk accessories. The surface shows aging, which enhances its antique appearance.

Extensive research results ind that the presence of square bolts (also known as square nuts) is a significant clue to the age and authenticity of this antique letter holder. These fasteners were the industry standard from the late 18th century through the early 1900s.

It further indicates that The "REG" stamp (short for "Registered") on the bottom base was officially protected by a patent office. In the UK, this system began in 1884, and the number on the bottom base often pinpoint the exact year of the design's registration. The registration number 41265, according to historical records from the National Archives registration numbers, dates it as being 1886. The year 1886 typically range from roughly 40,480 to 64,520.

A looking at the underside, the rough, sandy texture and subtle casting lines are consistent with sand casting, a traditional method for small-batch brass manufacturing during that era.
