Antique Kabyle Berber Silver & Enamel Kohl / Jewelry Box, Algeria, circa 1920s
A rare and finely crafted antique Kabyle box from the Berber region of Haute Kabylie, Algeria, traditionally used to hold kohl, rings, or small jewelry. Handcrafted by Berber artisans, this diminutive container is executed in silver-tone metal with intricate filigree work and vibrant cloisonné enamel.
The pagoda-shaped form is richly ornamented with raised silver filigree and polychrome enamel in vivid red, green, cobalt blue, and orange. Cabochon accents and applied beadwork enhance its sculptural presence, while the detailed surface reflects the exceptional craftsmanship characteristic of North African tribal jewelry.
