This prematurely listed primitive tool … with little advance restorative work … recently received a professional refinishing … of 5 separate coats of Old Masters TUNG OIL VARNISH !!!
It is a huge improvement … that highlights what appears to be distinctive, valuable, burl wood.
This is truly, a very, very early rustic primitive wooden mallet.
Seemingly … 1850ish. Maybe late 1700’s !
Could’ve been used for wood sculpting, or more likely for driving pegs into barn rafters. Real Hoosier barns, maybe.
The handle appears to be ash.
The handle and the mallet head are rock hard.
Great coffee table piece or rustic kitchen decor.
It’s a beaut.
Beautiful natural colors.
