- Manufactured by the Marks Adjustable Chair Co., New York, USA 1885- 1890 ca.
- Cavedra b. Sheldon, a New York City architect and inventor, designed this chair and sold the design to the marks adjustable folding chair company of New York City. The concept and design for this fantastic chair was derived from late 18th century portable iron campaign furniture used by military officers in the field, in their tents, the so-called 'campaign furniture'.
- In addition to being used in homes as a parlor chair, lounge armchair, library chair,relax chair, chaise -longue and daybed it was also used in Sanitariums and as a deck chair in resorts and on cruise ships.

- This specific design won a gold medal at the 1901 World's Fair, the Pan-American Exposition, held in Buffalo, New York. This was truly a revolutionary design and outstanding not only for comfort but also for health.
The chair is also held in the permanent collections of both the MET (Metropolitan Museum of Art) and the Brooklyn museum.
