A captivating piece of early 20th century decorative glass, this vase glows with the kind of rainbow iridescence that made the Art Nouveau era famous. The body is covered in an all-over hobnail or diamond-quilted texture, narrowing at the waist before rising to a distinctive square neck — a form associated with Bohemian glasshouses of the period, particularly makers such as Kralik, Loetz, or their contemporaries.
The showstopper is the applied decoration: a sinuous stem of flameworked glass winds up the front face, terminating in a fully dimensional flower bloom and leaf sprays in green and amber — all applied by hand while the glass was still hot. In different light, the surface shifts from warm gold to flashes of pink, violet, and blue.
Condition: Sold as-is, as found. This piece shows honest age and wear consistent with its years. Please review all photos carefully before purchasing: there is chipping and roughness along the square rim, surface wear and some mineral deposits on the body, and minor irregularities in the applied floral decoration. The vase is structurally sound with no cracks through the body. It is a decorative piece and not recommended for use as a water vessel.
A wonderful addition to an Art Nouveau collection, a curiosity cabinet, or a maximalist shelf that loves a little history and a lot of shimmer.
Pricing note: Comparable Kralik-style iridescent vases with applied floral decoration in excellent condition regularly sell in the $400–$2,500 range on 1stDibs and Pamono. This piece is priced to reflect its condition — a genuine antique at an accessible entry point for the category.
