Liquid glass, captured mid-wave. This luminous hand-blown vase embodies the full drama of the Bohemian Art Nouveau glassmaking tradition — a style perfected by Johann Lötz Witwe in the Klostermühle workshops at the turn of the twentieth century.
The body is formed in rich Creta (green) glass with a deeply sculpted, undulating surface of continuous sinuous waves — the signature hallmark of the celebrated Papillon and Phaenomen decorative traditions. As light moves across it, the iridescent surface shifts from chartreuse to peacock blue, violet, and molten gold, alive with the optical shimmer that made Loetz glass the rival of Tiffany in its day. The base reveals a beautifully resolved swirling pontil mark — evidence of the glassblower’s hand at the very end of the making process.
Squat and sculptural with a slightly squared silhouette and a short cylindrical neck, this is a desk-sized object with cabinet presence. Unsigned, as many Loetz-workshop pieces are.
Once cherished. Now yours.
