About the Poster:
These rare posters advertise a series of shows put on by the Royal Netherlands Circus in the summer of 1881 in front of the Isator, one of the four main gates of Munich's medieval city wall. The shows were headed by Oscar Carré, a Dutch-German entrepreneur, circus director, and the namesake for the prestigious Oscar Carré Trophy.
These posters advertise an original show titled 'A Night in Peking' performed by the Royal Netherlands Circus' full ensemble, which included a triumphal procession depicting Chinese royalty. They also advertise other shows, including equestrian shows and a performance by a clown and his "fine, free-spirited pig" named Blum-Pudding.
Posters are delicate and have tears and some staining on the edges. See photos for more details.
