These stunning penguin salt and pepper shakers are a signature example of Emilia Castillo's celebrated "Silver on Copper" technique combining matte black porcelain with intricate silver overlay. Although the stylized Emperor Penguins have minimalist silhouettes, they are designed to lean toward one another, suggesting a sense of companionship and shared warmth.
Curators of fine silver will find these penguins to be an important addition to their collection given the signature of Emilia on the bottoms of each piece along with the phrase "PLATA PURA MEXICO MR," which refers to the silver content of .999 fine silver and MR meaning Marca Registrado, an authentic registered design of Emilia's legally protected by the Mexican government.
