Lovely set of four individual porcelain ashtrays with matching holder. Perfect for their intended use or as catchalls for rings, perfume samples, soaps, and other small collectibles.
White porcelain ground with purple violets and gilt edges. Lefton China mark designates the violet design pattern and dates the pieces from the mid 1950s.
Lefton China company's history is truly a story of international trade. George Zoltan Lefton was a Hungarian immigrant who landed in Chicago and founded the business right after the close of WWII. Nicknamed "the China King", Lefton imported fine chinaware from Japan fabricated for the American market. From the blue crown mark en verso, we date this set to the mid-1950s to early 1960s following the time when Japanese manufacturers begain using the "Made in Japan" term at the end of occupation.
