c. 1850 French antique secretaire in the English style with abattant (drop-leaf) desk writing surface with original key opening to inner compartments, two doors above with original key opening to one shelf; two drawers are below. The exterior and top of the desk are all in gorgeous Bois de Rose and acajou marquetry, rubbed varnish finish. The four key holes (one for upper two doors, one for writing surface and two on drawers are brass dores decorated with Marie Antoinette's emblematic ribbons. The drawers have two circular pulls each, replicating in brass Napoleon I's woven gold crown with leaves and small pearls. Two front feet have brass dores. The interior writing surface is olive green leather with gold embossing and was replaced by Paris dealer prior to Seller's purchase.
Sellers are private individuals who lived in Paris 1990-1993 where this rare English style French antique was purchased from Haetnges Freres Antiquaires, 11th arr., in 1992. Sellers have no antique or decorative credentials. Invoices are available.
