A studio pottery vase by American artist Newell Hillis Arnold (1906-1988). This brown vase features an abstract, organic shape, with three openings. It is signed with a conjoined “HA” to the underside.
Newell Hillis Arnold was born in North Dakota and graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in architecture. He went on to teach sculpture and ceramics at Monticello in 1938, and remained there for 34 years. He contributed to the design and sculptures in civic buildings and churches across the Midwest.
