The cylindrical body is engraved with a classical literati scene depicting the implements of the scholar’s studio—brushes, incense burner, and writing instruments beneath flowering branches—representing the cultivated environment of the Chinese study.

Vertical inscriptions in classical script evoke the contemplative life of poetry, calligraphy, and ink preparation. The elegantly curved spout functions as a controlled water dropper used when grinding ink on the inkstone, while the integrated tools assist with brush care and ink preparation.

Such objects formed part of the revered tradition of the “Four Treasures of the Study.” Complete examples retaining their original components are increasingly difficult to find.
