These vessels were used in ancient China, particularly during the Shang and Zhou dynasties, for storing and pouring ceremonial wine in ritual sacrifices. The large, arching overhead handle is a defining characteristic of the "You" form. It features prominent Taotie (mythical beast face) motifs, a staple of archaic Chinese bronze art. The neck of this specific vessel bears a seal script inscription, which often records the maker, owner, or the specific ritual occasion it was cast for.
