So this is a really exciting set — 8 matching plates by Mason's Patent Ironstone China, one of the most storied names in English pottery.
If you're not familiar with Mason's, here's the short version: ironstone was first patented in 1813 by Charles James Mason, a Staffordshire potter, as a cheaper but incredibly durable alternative to porcelain. The whole idea was to make beautiful china that could actually survive daily life — the durability was beyond any other yet produced; It became the china of choice for the aspiring middle classes and was hugely popular on both sides of the Atlantic.
Mason's china patterns are well collected today, retaining their characteristic rich colors. Vintage-and-antiques This set carries pattern number C2807.
Mason's changed names and hands many times over the centuries, but the "Mason's Patent Ironstone China, England" mark on these plates points to production most likely in the early-to-mid 20th century.
Finding a complete set of 8 in matching condition is genuinely uncommon after this many decades.
