This beautiful water vessel is likely from India or Nepal, dating to the late 19th or early 20th century. Handcrafted from a heavy metal alloy, the surface features detailed etching and an incredible patina of the component metals. The copper patina especially comes through, depositing light turquoise color that brings out the design. The vase has substantial heft despite the compact size.
Such vessels, sometimes referred to as lotas, were traditionally used to carry or store water for daily use or ritual purification in Hindu and Buddhist households. The engraved surface is both decorative and symbolic, often reflecting floral or geometric patterns associated with sacred design traditions. While originally utilitarian, these pieces are now collected for their craftsmanship and cultural value.
Well suited to bohemian, global, wabi-sabi, or traditional interiors.
Dimensions: 6.5" high by 5" wide, with 2.5" opening.
