A rare and remarkable find for the discerning collector of mid-century religious art or high-end sculptural decor.
This matching pair of "Orans" prayer hands represents the pinnacle of 1970s American ceramic artistry. Standing at a substantial 10.25 inches tall, these pieces were cast from original Scioto Ceramics molds (Columbus, Ohio), a manufacturer renowned for its "master-study" level of anatomical realism. Unlike standard vintage figurines, these are distinguished by an extraordinary level of detail: every palm crease, lifeline, and even individual fingerprints are crisply captured in the ceramic.
The statues are finished in a warm, natural bisque tone that highlights the sculptural shadows of the hands. They are grounded by brilliant, original gold-leaf cuffs that remain in impeccable condition. Weighing over 2 pounds each, this set is substantial enough to serve as functional bookends or as a powerful, symmetrical centerpiece for a mantel or altar.
Excellent vintage condition. This pair is "Gift Grade" with zero crazing, chips, or cracks. The gold-painted detailing is bright and lustrous with no flaking or wear. Light, age-appropriate shelf wear on the undersides only.
