The lamps focal point is a large … Read more This is distinctive Art-Deco inspired lamp by Maitland Smith, featuring a sculptured peacock. The lamps focal point is a large fan shaped tail screen meticulously crafted from tessellated penshell. The shell fragments transition from deep chocolate ambers to translucent honeys, arranged in a radiating sunburst pattern with inlaid oval “eyes” to mimic peacock feathers. The body of the bird is composed of cast metal with dark, verdigris or bronze toned patina, exhibiting fine textural detail in the feathering. The entire assembly rest on a tiered rectangular black lacquered base with a gadrooned edge detail. This piece reflects Maitland Smith’s signature use of exotic materials and high end craftsmanship. The lamp is illuminated from behind the shell screen, creating a warm, organic glow. In excellent condition with no cracks to the shell or mosaic. It is well preserved and original finish. See less
