Additional Information
This model is closely related to documented designs by Jacob & Josef Kohn from around 1899–1900, often associated with Gustav Siegel and the early Vienna Secession movement.
Comparable examples (model no. 717) were presented in the context of the Paris Exposition of 1900, where Viennese bentwood furniture played a key role in the development of modern design. Kohn’s collaboration with progressive architects such as Josef Hoffmann and designers like Gustav Siegel marked a turning point from traditional bentwood production toward architecturally conceived furniture.
Literature and catalog references illustrate closely related armchair models with identical structural features, including the continuous bentwood armrests, arched underframe construction, and brass sabots.
These designs are considered representative of the transition toward modernism in Central Europe and remain highly sought after by collectors of Vienna Secession furniture.
Acquired from the same Viennese household as a complete Vienna Secession furniture ensemble attributed to Jacob & Josef Kohn and Gustav Siegel, circa 1900. Very good antique condition with a well preserved patina. The leather upholstery shows a naturally aged surface and appears to be an older restoration, harmonizing with the overall character of the set. Structurally sound. Brass sabots intact.
