This Murano glass bowl by Alfredo Barbini, produced in Italy circa the 1970s, is executed in the sommerso technique, featuring a deep cobalt blue core encased within a dense black outer layer. Subtle white spiral striations are visible within the blue interior, introducing movement and visual complexity to the composition. The contrast between the saturated blue and the darker casing creates a strong chromatic effect, while the clarity and thickness of the glass contribute to a sense of depth and weight. The internal spiral detailing adds a distinctive optical quality, aligning with characteristics associated with later Murano production. The rim is shaped with three evenly spaced indentations, giving the bowl a softly contoured, rhythmic profile. This sculptural form balances organic shaping with controlled symmetry, allowing the piece to function as both a decorative object and a practical vessel. The bowl measures approximately 8.1 inches (20.5 cm) in diameter and 2.75 inches (7 cm) in height, offering a substantial presence suitable for use as a centerpiece or display piece. Condition is very good vintage, with light surface wear consistent with age and use. No chips or cracks are observed, and the glass retains clarity and luster. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity
issues arising from misattribution
