The piece is dated 1956 (marking at the bottom right) and was made in Germany. Its length of 120 cm makes it a true “statement piece,” ideal for mid-century, rustic, loft, or wabi-sabi interiors.

On the reverse is a hand-carved, partially faded inscription in German, which became more legible after conservation with linseed oil. It includes, among other things, the phrase:

“Die Mauern Trojas im Holz. Diese Tafel aus der Rückschau geschnitzt.”

(“The walls of Troy in wood. This panel carved from the perspective of memories.”)

This indicates the work’s deliberate, artistic nature, going beyond mere decoration.

The relief has been gently treated with linseed oil, which has highlighted the wood’s grain and brought out the depth of detail, while preserving its natural, raw character.

Condition:
Good vintage condition. Natural signs of use and handcrafting, consistent with its age.
