Limited edition of 8 pieces + 4 artist's proof. Dimensions: w 111 x d 100 x h 76 cm. Materials: aluminium. Oscillation extends the logic of the series into time. Unlike the brother pieces, romulus and remus, this chair does not stabilize itself through a fixed posture. Its material and structural language remain the same — planar aluminium, precise assembly, exposed determination — yet its curved base refuses final settlement. Stability is not given. It is negotiated. The rocking foundation introduces duration into the object. Balance emerges only through movement, through continuous adjustment between body, mass, and ground. The chair remains responsive, never fully resolved, never entirely still. Where romulus consolidates and remus opens the system to strain, oscillation occupies the interval between them. It transforms tension into rhythm and rigidity into cadence. Equilibrium here is not a point of rest, but an ongoing process. In that sense, oscillation completes the sequence not by closing it, but by keeping it alive. The chair is conceived and delivered in its bare form, where the work is fully resolved. The case study. This piece is part of the case study collection, which follows a narrow corridor defined by function, reduction, and structural necessity. The work of bureau of entropy follows a narrow corridor defined by function, reduction, and structural necessity. Objects are developed through two primary binding principles: precise interlocking parts with minimal tolerances, and gravity used as a structural agent. Form follows function not as a slogan, but as constraint. Less is more not as style, but as discipline. Within this corridor, forms emerge that recall ancient, culturally tested archetypes — objects whose functions have endured for millennia. Their familiarity is not nostalgic, but structural. Each object represents a specific condition within this ongoing case study. Bureau of entropy is a design collective founded in 2025 by marvin julian freund and matthias figurowicz. The collective is rooted in a shared background in toolmaking craftsmanship, where both founders developed a deep understanding of material behaviour, precision manufacturing, and metalworking processes. This early, hands-on experience continues to inform their approach to construction and structural logic. Following this foundation, freund pursued studies in architecture with a focus on spatial design, proportion, and material presence, while figurowicz studied mechanical engineering, specialising in structure, mechanics, and functional systems. Over time, their distinct disciplines evolved in parallel, shaping complementary perspectives on form and function. In 2025, these paths converged in the formation of bureau of entropy. Today, the collective works at the intersection of architecture, engineering, and craftsmanship, developing furniture and lighting objects that emphasise structural clarity, material intelligence, and reduced form. The work operates between functional object and sculptural presence, positioning itself within the field of collectible design. See less
