Like its counterpart, it is constructed from planar aluminium elements slotted together without fasteners. Yet its greater height and more pronounced axis give it a different role in the relationship: not merely one half of a system, but the half that establishes its upward claim. The object draws from the legacy of the sella curulis — not as historical quotation, but as a study in provisional authority. It is not designed for comfort. It is designed for presence. Curulis Major remains dependent on the logic of the pair, but it carries that dependency with greater emphasis and amplitude. Stability emerges through mutual reliance, not autonomy. Each object represents a specific condition within this ongoing case study. Bureau of Entropy is a design collective founded in 2025 by Marvin Julian Freund and Matthias Figurowicz. The collective is rooted in a shared background in toolmaking craftsmanship, where both founders developed a deep understanding of material behaviour, precision manufacturing, and metalworking processes. This early, hands-on experience continues to inform their approach to construction and structural logic. Following this foundation, Freund pursued studies in architecture with a focus on spatial design, proportion, and material presence, while Figurowicz studied mechanical engineering, specialising in structure, mechanics, and functional systems. Over time, their distinct disciplines evolved in parallel, shaping complementary perspectives on form and function. In 2025, these paths converged in the formation of Bureau of Entropy. Today, the collective works at the intersection of architecture, engineering, and craftsmanship, developing furniture and lighting objects that emphasise structural clarity, material intelligence, and reduced form.
