Wooden frame and separate metal frame. Mobile chest of drawers with wooden frame and ottoman texture. Dimensions: desk 200x73x102 cm; chest of drawers 70x46x70 cm prod. Poggi, italy, 1958. Designed by franco albini and franca helg and produced by poggi during the late 1950s, the t22 desk represents one of the most refined expressions of italian rationalism translated into furniture form. The desk’s asymmetrical, organically curved top rests on a geometric trestle base composed of intersecting planes of solid mahogany, revealing the duo’s architectural approach to furniture construction. The accompanying movable chest of drawers on casters, with four drawers and sculpted handles, complements the desk’s dynamic profile and offers practical storage without compromising its visual lightness. Every structural joint is conceived with clarity and purpose — a hallmark of albini and helg’s collaboration with poggi, whose superb woodworking transformed modernist ideas into tactile craftsmanship. The contrast between the sculptural asymmetry of the top and the precision of the base expresses the designers’ ongoing exploration of the dialogue between function, material honesty, and architectural balance. This t22 model is among the most celebrated examples of albini and helg’s post-war production for poggi — a perfect synthesis of architectural discipline and organic modernism. The desk stands as a timeless statement of italian design’s intellectual and material sophistication in the 1950s. Ref. G.
