Antonio Ferretti Teak Writing Desk with Brass Handles and Feet, Italy, 1960s.
The writing desk is distinguished by its ‘suspended’ and architectural structure. The top and drawer unit do not rest directly on the floor, but are supported by an easel-style frame that gives the piece a sense of extreme lightness and modernity. The feet, a distinctive feature of high-quality furniture of the period, are made of turned brass with a characteristic pointed or ‘goblet’ shape. On the left-hand side is a unit with four stacked drawers. The handles are slender and made of brass, matching the legs of the base. The drawer unit is visually ‘separated’ from the top surface by small spacers, a detail typical of Ferretti’s design to create a play of empty and full spaces. This piece has an attribution mark,
