An elegant pair of Bastiano club/lounge chairs, designed by the iconic Italian design duo Afra & Tobia Scarpa for Knoll, Italy. The chairs feature a solid wooden frame and have recently been reupholstered in a sand-coloured corduroy fabric. The loose seat and back cushions cover the steel lower supports and elastic straps. Scarpa designed these chairs as part of the company’s experimental design studio. Drawing on Le Corbusier’s concept of segmented design, Scarpa replaced the cold steel design of Le Corbusier’s original with a solid wooden base, achieving a solid, substantial appearance combined with a beautiful warmth.
