Offered is a framed original serigraph screen print of Haitian artist Adam Leontus's Peacock bird, the original done in oil on masonite board. It depicts a peacock in all its glory among lush tropical flora. This piece is signed in pencil on the print itself, as well as below the lower right (see photos).
Measures 25.5" x 48" x 1" framed, 17.5" x 36" exposed art within matting.
We've recently had this reframed and re-matted in a vintage off-white faux bamboo wood frame, and some of the images are of the uncovered serigraph to show the crisp colors and details. The protective glass is difficult to photograph. The frame has a wedge shaped faux suede exterior piping to cover the joint where glass meets frame - it's a lovely detail.
This print was sold to our mother by Israeli artist Yankel Ginzburg - a neighbor, who helped organize an exhibit of Caribbean and Haitian artists in Washington, DC in the 1980s. The print was kept wrapped in protective cellophane since production.
Biography:
"Adam Leóntus was born one of nine children in Port-au-Prince and worked as a docker at the port. He augmented his wages by painting Vodou temple walls in poorer areas in the city and these murals brought him to the attention of le Centre d’Art in 1947. In the 1950s Leóntus was commissioned to paint the mural of the Annunciation at the Episcopal Cathedral of Sainte Trinité. Whilst Leóntus had roots in Vodou communities, he preferred depicting scenes of nature and wildlife, especially tropical birds. His work is included in the permanent collections of the Musée d’Art Haitien du Collège Saint Pierre in Port-au-Prince, the Milwaukee Museum of Art, the Waterloo Museum of Art in Iowa, the UCLA Fowler Museum in Los Angeles, and the New Orleans Museum of Art."

We have had it professionally framed with a vintage faux-bamboo wood frame and a new neutral matting board. The frame has some minor scuffs on the surface, age-appropriate wear, but nothing that detracts from its being exhibited. It has its rear wire and hardware, ready to hang. less
