This is the kind of piece that makes a room do more with less — a beautifully designed mid-century modern secretary bookcase that combines open shelving, concealed cabinet storage, a drop-front writing surface, and dedicated enough room for LP record or file storage in one tall, architecturally considered walnut unit. It is exactly the sort of intelligent, multi-function furniture that defines the best of MCM domestic design.
The layout reads from top to bottom as a complete domestic system. Open upper shelves with a gracefully arched top rail provide display space for books and objects. Below, a pair of doors — their vertical slat pattern a signature MCM texture detail — conceal a mid-cabinet compartment. A drop-front writing surface unfolds to reveal an organized interior with vertical dividers, ideal for correspondence, files, or a vinyl record collection in use. The lower cabinet, behind a second matching pair of doors, offers further deep storage.
It works equally well in a home office, library, or living room for anyone who wants serious, organized storage in a piece that looks as good closed as it does open.
Dark walnut throughout, with the warm, rich tone of quality 1960s American production. No maker's label found — common for American decorator-trade furniture of the period. The arched top rail is a particularly elegant touch that elevates this above standard production. A rare multi-function piece in excellent overall character.
