Here is a handsome set of six antique dining chairs, likely dating to the late 19th to early 20th century, featuring beautifully carved backs with shield-form motifs and classic Victorian-era detailing. The warm wood tone highlights the carving and figured wood nicely, giving the set a refined yet approachable presence.
Each chair features a solid wood frame with turned legs and stretchers, along with round shaped seats and carved back splats. The backrests showcase beautifully figured veneer panels with a burled wood appearance, adding depth and visual richness to the design. I especially love the central motif, which has a subtle “shining” heart-like form that gives the chairs a bit of personality without feeling overly ornate. The carved details extend throughout, including the crest rails, splats, and shaped arm supports, highlighting the craftsmanship and decorative appeal of the set.
The seats are fitted with removable metal pan bases, typical of the period, and are currently upholstered in a teal fabric. The seats can be easily removed and reupholstered, making this an ideal set for customization with your fabric of choice.

As expected with antique chairs, there is a slight degree of wiggle in some joints, but the set remains stable and fully functional. The wood frames show age-appropriate wear including surface wear, finish variation, and minor scuffs consistent with antique use. The upholstery is presentable but shows age/wear, and reupholstery is recommended. Seats are removable and easy to recover, making this a great candidate for customization. There are a few areas showing minor prior repairs, including visible glue remnants near some leg joints (see 14th photo). One chair has a previous leg repair that appears stable and secure. Additionally, one chair is missing a front slat, shown in 3rd and 7th photo. Overall, the set presents well with a nice antique patina and retains its decorative appeal. less
