A beautiful and collectible porcelain plate by Rörstrand, one of Scandinavia's most prestigious porcelain manufacturers (founded 1726), featuring iconic artwork by celebrated Swedish illustrator John Bauer (1882–1918). The image on the front depicts two scenes from Bauer's most famous work: the wise elk Skutt standing over the sleeping, vulnerable Princess Tuvstarr, and Skutt carrying the princess in a gallop — both drawn from the beloved 1913 fairy tale "Sagan om älgtjuren Skutt och lilla prinsessan Tuvstarr" (The Tale of Leap the Elk and Little Princess Cottongrass), published in the iconic Swedish anthology Bland Tomtar och Troll (Among Gnomes and Trolls).
Bauer's hauntingly beautiful, muted Nordic palette — misty grays, warm ochres, and earthy browns — is rendered faithfully on the glazed surface of this rounded-square form plate. The artist's signature "John Bauer" appears within the artwork itself, and the back is clearly stamped with the Rörstrand crowned "R" mark along with the artist's name.
