Crafted in the 1940s, its rounded form features a mottled turquoise glaze, complemented by a sculptural rim of rhythmic white loops and a bow motif. Both decorative and functional, the piece serves as a vase or decorative accent. Gustave Asch was one of those French ceramicists whose work feels inseparable from the landscape that shaped it. Working in the small village of Sainte-Radegonde in the early 20th century, he crafted vessels that carried both the refinement of Art Deco design and the intimacy of studio pottery. Asch favored generous, rounded formsshapes that felt held rather than engineeredand glazes that moved with the light, shifting from deep turquoise to soft mineral tones. His pieces often reveal a playful restraint: sculptural rims, looping motifs, and hand-wrought details that turn functional forms into small architectural moments. Though created in the 1940s, his ceramics feel timelessobjects that could live just as comfortably in a Parisian apartment as they once did in the quiet workshops of Sainte-Radegonde. Today, Aschs work is admired for its balance of elegance and ease, its unmistakable Art Deco lineage softened by the warmth of the artisans hand. Condition: In great vintage condition, with minor discoloration to the interior of the white loops. Unmarked. See less
