This authentic piece of Native American folk art by known Cherokee-descendant artist Brad Hawiyeh-Ehi (1936–2016) features a stylized turtle motif that is repeated on the gourd's three sides. It is accented by geometric staircase designs typical of Hawiyeh-Ehi's celebrated style.
The background of the gourd is left its natural rich ochre yellow, transitioning into a vibrant moss-green base. The artist’s signature and date are clearly hand painted on the lower edge. The arched detail of the rim, colorful design and substantial 11-inch height make it a bold and lively statement piece.

The exterior does not show scuffs or paint loss. There is a hairline crack extending from the point of one of the arches on the rim, approximately 1.5" to a pinhead sized pit. It is not visible in situ. The inside is painted white, and there are a few small patches less than 1/2" of paint loss. These factors are captured in the listing photos. less
