A striking Monumental equestrian bronze figure after Barye — Arab horseman on horseback, one of the sculptor’s most recognizable compositions. This reminds me of the famous movie “Lawrence of Arabia “
Beautifully modeled with exceptional movement in both the horse and rider, and finished with a rich, classic patina. The sculpture has wonderful detail throughout and strong presence from every angle.
The base is signed BARYE and sits on a heavy black marble platform base with a metal plaque.
Alfred Barye (1839–1882), was the son of the noted French animal sculptor Antoine-Louis Barye. He specialised in bronze sculptures, particularly animals and equestrian figures, and worked closely within the family tradition of fine casting and detailed modelling. His works were exhibited in France during the mid to late 19th century.
A substantially Large & heavy sculpture measuring approximately 23” x 13” x 30” and weighing about 150 lbs making it a striking display piece.
