Crafted in France circa 1870, each oval composition depicts the Sacred Heart, Christ on one and the Virgin Mary on the other, rendered in soft, finely shaded tones and presented in a serene, classical manner.
Each image is set within its original oval giltwood frame, richly decorated with hand-carved floral and foliate motifs and finished with a warm, luminous gold patina. A beaded inner border further enhances the presentation, drawing the eye toward the central figures. The reverse retains original backing and period labeling from a Marseille print and framing house, adding to the authenticity and provenance of the pieces.
In excellent condition commensurate with age and use, the pair shows light wear consistent with time. The harmonious scale and subject matter make these antique wall pieces ideal for a bedroom, hallway, or chapel-inspired space, bringing both decorative charm and historical character.
