The Qianlong Emperor, who reigned from 1735 to 1796, presided over a period of immense prosperity and artistic achievement in China. His reign is considered a golden age for Chinese porcelain, with imperial kilns at Jingdezhen producing some of the most sophisticated and highly prized ceramics in history. These pieces often featured intricate designs, vibrant enamels, and meticulous craftsmanship, reflecting the emperor's discerning taste and patronage.
However, the practice of applying reign marks from earlier periods, such as Qianlong, to later productions became common, especially in the 20th century. These "revival" pieces were often made to cater to the market's demand for antique-style ceramics, and while they can be decorative and well-made, they do not possess the same historical significance or value as genuine imperial wares from the period they claim to represent.
This is a beautiful lavender enamel bowl with turquoise interior. Stellar piece.
