An impressive and highly detailed vintage "Blanc de Chine" (white-glazed) ceramic urn centerpiece, handcrafted in Italy. This substantial piece features a classical neoclassical form, adorned with intricate acanthus leaf relief work and two graceful swan-form handles. Originally imported and sold by the upscale "Southern Hospitality" boutique in Memphis, Tennessee, during the late 1970s, this vessel is a quintessential example of Hollywood Regency elegance. The urn sits on a sturdy square pedestal base, leading to a body enveloped in layered, embossed foliage. The high-gloss white glaze has aged beautifully, developing a fine, authentic crazing that adds character and confirms its vintage origin. Its large scale (nearly 16 inches tall) makes it a commanding centerpiece for a dining table, entryway console, or mantle.
The underside retains its original hand-painted artisan mold numbers "38/139" and a "Made in Italy". It also features the original black and gold foil retail label from Southern Hospitality, a renowned Memphis floral and fine gift boutique that opened in 1977.
Condition
The piece is in excellent vintage condition, showing only a minute glaze flake on the swan's head and expected age-related crazing. These small imperfections are typical of hand-glazed Italian pottery from this era and do not detract from its overall display quality
