Late 18th-century Danish bureau or secretary featuring a newer professionally applied black layered painted finish, lightly distressed to reveal natural oak beneath and suit the age of the piece. The interior is painted a contrasting pale blue. The desktop opens on hinges to reveal six drawers for storage and organization.
Crafted in both oak (front) and pine (drawer sides/bottoms) which was the traditional method of the era. The lower section features three large Rococo-style curved drawers, each fitted with two brass pulls.
The secretary rests on bun feet and has simple carved panels along the sides.
Typical cracks, nicks, and age-related separation (in particular drawer bottoms and back) are present throughout from generations of use.
The upper cabinet door retains a key, though the lock functions stiffly. While the same key seems to fit the desk, it is best used as a pull only as this lock presents difficulty opening.
Restored strong, stable, and ready for use. Photos of back reveal old repairs, some signs of old dried (inactive) wormholes.
