This rectangular example features a rich red ground adorned with intricate gilt decoration, including flowering motifs and delicate butterflies, characteristic of export wares produced for the Western market during this period.

The lid is centered with a decorative panel measuring approximately 8 inches wide by 4.5 inches deep, showcasing an arrangement of floral elements rendered in gold against the vibrant red lacquer. The exterior is further enhanced by black lacquer accents, creating a striking contrast throughout.

Raised on distinctive paw feet with winged, classically inspired detailing, the form reflects a blend of Eastern craftsmanship with Western stylistic influence. The interior, measuring approximately 2.5 inches deep, has been relined in felt and would have originally served as a work box, likely used for sewing implements or alternatively as a small candy or keepsake box.

The box presents well, with expected wear to the lacquer. It does not retain its original key.
