This French stoneware crock, also known as a confit pot or storage jar, is a lovely example of French provincial style.
Popular in the 19th and early 20th centuries for food preservation, it’s made from stoneware with a warm off-white or beige salt-glazed finish.
Clearly handmade, it has a sturdy side handle for easy carrying and features graceful horizontal ridges from being hand-thrown on a wheel. The base shows natural wear and darkening, likely from decades of use on stone cellar floors. Its distinctive orange peel texture is characteristic of the Loire Valley region.
