These were hand carved from dense hardwood with elongated shafts and expressive anthropomorphic heads, each depicting stylized ancestral or warrior figures with deeply carved eyes, geometric ears, and incised facial detailing. Traditionally carried by tribal elders, respected warriors, or community leaders, objects of this type served not only as defensive clubs, but also as symbols of authority, protection, lineage, and spiritual presence within Ethiopian highland cultures. The carved heads likely represented ancestral guardians or idealized male figures, embodying strength, wisdom, and social standing. Richly aged with a warm, naturally worn patina, visible hand-tool marks, and age-related cracking throughout, the pair retains an exceptional sculptural quality that blurs the line between weapon, ceremonial object, and folk art carving.
