This expressive figure features an elongated abstracted form with open carved body spaces, simplified facial features, and a distinctive plank-like back silhouette characteristic of traditional Sukuma or Nyamwezi carving styles from western Tanzania. Originally created for spiritual, ceremonial, or ancestral remembrance purposes, the figure reflects the highly symbolic and minimal aesthetic often found in regional ritual sculpture. Beautiful age cracks, surface wear, and softened carving details speak to its age and long history of handling and use. Mounted on a custom iron display stand as art. See less
