Frederick Carder for Steuben Glass Vanity Bottle, Clear Crystal with Black Threading, circa 1920s.
An elegant and highly collectible vanity bottle designed by Frederick Carder for Steuben Glass Works during the celebrated Carder era (1903–1932).
This refined example, dating to the 1920s, exemplifies the innovation and artistry that define early American art glass.
The bottle is executed in clear crystal and enhanced with distinctive applied black threading—known as “reeding”—where molten glass is hand-applied in fluid, irregular ribbons encircling the form.
This contrasts beautifully with the sleek, geometric silhouette and showcases the technical mastery of Steuben’s craftsmen.
It retains its original mirror-black glass stopper, faceted and elegantly proportioned, completing the sophisticated monochrome aesthetic. Both sculptural and functional, the piece reflects the refined luxury of early 20th-century vanity objects.
