The upper section features on top a green leather inset writing surface with gilt tooling above two short drawers and one full-width drawer with individual locks. Another leather top writing surface at desk height is offered as a pull-out slide.

The lower section presents three graduated long drawers, each with original recessed brass ring pulls and lock escutcheons. Characteristic brass corner strapping, flush fittings, bullet drawer catches, and bracket feet complete the exterior.

The mahogany is a warm, well-figured brown, consistent with period stock. All brass hardware retains strong original gilding with an appropriately aged patina. The twin green leather surfaces, both tooled in gilt, are in particularly pleasing condition and lend the piece considerable visual distinction.

This chest would serve equally well as a functional writing desk or as a storage chest in a study, library, or bedroom. See less
