Own a piece of American furniture history from the "Furniture Capital of the World." This stunning Derbyshire-style backstool was manufactured by the prestigious Sligh Furniture Company in Grand Rapids, Michigan, during the early 20th-century Jacobean Revival movement.
This chair beautifully blends 17th-century English aesthetics with the superior craftsmanship of the Edwardian era. The key identifying features are the two distinctive crescent-shaped cross-slats decorated with S-scrolls and inverted acorn or water-drop pendants—a hallmark of the Derbyshire and South Yorkshire regions of England.
The beaded molding runs along the full front of the seat apron, and the boldly turned baluster front legs are joined by a sturdy H-stretcher base — all hallmarks of the finest American furniture making of the early 20th century.
this heavily carved oak side chair bears the original brass maker's medallion of the prestigious Sligh Furniture Company of Grand Rapids, Michigan, established 1880. Finding a Sligh piece with its original brass medallion intact is increasingly rare, making this a true collector's item.
