Louis XVI furniture (c. 1774–1792) is defined by a shift toward Neoclassicism, moving away from the elaborate curves of the preceding Louis XV style in favor of architectural clarity, symmetry, and straight lines. Inspired by the rediscovery of ancient Roman and Greek ruins in Pompeii and Herculaneum, the style emphasizes a "restrained opulence" that balances luxury with geometric order.
Geometric order is in full display in the handsome Louis XVI bar cabinet with harlequin inlaid panels on all four sides, that are also pull down doors allowing access from all sides. Fluted legs and corners add to the symmetry of patterns found in Louis the XVI furniture. An interior lined with golden wood laminate finishes this piece nicely and makes for a beautiful display piece inside and out.
