A truly spectacular, enormous solid walnut refectory/dining table from a French convent ("nunnery") dating to the 19th century. The wood planks forming the top surface are arranged into three, nearly square panels for a sense of order and geometry complementing the fine grain patterns of the walnut. Within the deep apron, each long side contains six drawers where the sisters would have kept their dinner service. This is a great feature to benefit the modern interior as well, for storage that is ideally out-of-sight but convenient to retrieve. Three pairs of legs hold up the mass of the table that are turned and tapered in a stack of rings. Note that there is the expected patina of fine scratches, dents, and water rings adding to the historic character of the table. Gently cleaned and polished with a French paste wax, ready for its next home. Please view the detailed images to see more.
