The style is from the Ming Dynasty, a traditional square table with a slightly raised molded edge, a recessed apron supported by four elegant cabriole legs, The legs are straight almost halfway then curved inward and out towards the slightly sprayed feet. Two tightly fit panels form the table top, leaving a separation between the mitered frame as breathing room, expansion in the summer and contraction in the winter. Raised lines appear in the recessed apron, a common feature in Ming style furniture, adding nice details. As with all antique furniture, this was constructed using various joints.

Square tables such as this one are often used in the scholar's studios or as a dining table. It is said that the dishes of food smelled so good that the Eight Daoist Immortals came by to join the diners, thus giving the table this lofty name. See less
