A handsome and beautifully patinated 18th century French Provincial walnut library table or desk crafted in the Louis XIII Baroque taste. The piece features a long rectangular plank top with an organically time-worn weathered finish, showing rich tonal variation and age marks, giving the piece an exceptional rustic character. The top sits above a single frieze locking drawer fitted with two carved pulls, and a central escutcheon and key having an ornate tassel pull. The table is raised on elegantly turned baluster legs ending with bun feet. The legs are conjoined by turned stretchers and block-form connectors, giving the piece a refined European Country presence. The rustic table is crafted in the French Baroque period with subtle Louis XVIII influence. The versatile piece is functional as a library table, desk, writing table, console table, vanity, hall table, or as an entry or foyer table. Ample leg room with a clearance measuring 24.75" high from the floor to the apron. The table measures 31.5 inches tall with a space between the legs measuring 46" wide. The large case has solid joinery and construction with a desirable aged patina showcasing the woodgrains. The walnut surface was gently polished and finished with a hand-applied wax to enhance the depth of the patina while preserving the character of the antique wood. A beautifully balanced French table that blends architectural presence with understated elegance. From a winery estate in the Napa Valley, CA.
